I haven't updated in a while, mainly because I've been busy, stressed and anxious recently. But I'll just talk about the busy...
Currently we are in the midst of a big project that needs to be completed within two weeks. This means I 'get' to work on Saturday, which I have resisted up until now. I was given the opportunity to work the last three Saturdays, and even Memorial Day, but I resisted as I don't like working on Saturdays... or any other day I'm not scheduled. I figure I have to come in to Saturday to pull my own weight a little, my coworker has already put in 3 Saturdays, while I have put in none. I have put in some overtime, but it's mostly in half hour increments at the end of my work day.
I am beginning to think I dislike my job a bit, but maybe it's just this week and working Saturdays... ah, at least I get Comp Time...
I have recieved my stimulus check, but I haven't decided how to spend it yet. I feel it is my duty as an American to spend it instead of save it - but for now it is burning a hole in my virtual 'savings' pocket. However, my main goal for the extra money is to fly back to Minnesota sometime this summer! I would love to be in town for the Minnesota State Fair, but I doubt that will happen. I just want some yummy deep fried cheese curds... that's all!! Anyway, look for me this summer, possibly, sometime. (Side note: any cheap airlines into MSP? I see that JetBlue, SouthWest, and Virgin all do NOT fly there...)
This weekend was so incredibly nice! We had temperatures yesterday in the 80s and today in the 70s. I did a little bit of yard work, but not much. I did plant a new daily in an empty pot. I did a little bit of weeding, but I have to admit it's an uphill battle when you have as much landscaped area as I do. I still have yet to get back in my gardening 'gear' since putting my back out about two months ago. Anybody want to come out and help?
I did manage to get some shopping in (supporting the economy) and have a couple of new shirts to show for it. They don't have anything super cute, and there seem to be a lot of 80s prints back.... which I can't really support. Wearing teal, an almost totally 80s color, is something I can support though, so I suppose it all evens outs.
One of the things Scott and I have been watching recently is The American Experience on PBS. We have now watched the one about George H.W. Bush, and it was fascinating. I highly reccommend it, and you learn so much about the history of America watching this show! For example: who knew that Bush was the head of the Republican party during Whitewater?
The other show we caught last week was 'The Secrets of the Dead' episode Doping for Gold. It was about the East Germany's beaurocratic doping of their athletes during the 1970s to 1980s. The athletes (most of the time) didn't realize they were being doped, as the steroids were mixed in with their vitamens. (Eventually they became shots, and more of them realized what was being done). East Germany started doping their athletes VERY young, as young as 12 to 14. This was all because they wanted glory for their country and it's amazing how far they got - and what havoc it wreaked on their athletes bodies. If you can catch this episode I would highly reccommend it.
Not much other education programming recently - just the usual episodes of Dr Who, Battlestar, How I Met Your Mother and 30Rock... ah, such a waste of time...
Does it disturb anybody else that there a shoes randomly left on the side of freeways? Every once in a while I will be driving and see a shoe, usually just one, on the side of the road. Do people stick their feet off the window and lose shoes? Do they just throw them out the window? Did a truck carrying shoes to a store crash and create a shoe explosion?
What is even more distrubing is the children's shoes... I mean seriously. Do you let your children hang their feet out of the car on the freeway? I'm just wondering...
