Heroes: Fallback

I have to admit I am a HUGE fan of this show. I jumped right on the bandwagon from the very beginning, although I do have to admit it is a little choppy at time and I have 'non-favorite' characters (you know who you are Niki): I characterize these as freshman year bumps, it will improve in time. I apologize for this article if you haven't seen the show, and you might want to skip reading it if you haven't as I am going to spoil and ruminate on what may happen in the future.

Peter Petrelli: like Peter Parker, an underachiever who wants so badly to be special. He started out the season dreaming about being able to fly, which he can't do though he did jump off a building because he thought he could. His brother (Nathan) can fly and Peter was having dreams about Nathan's flying ability. Peter can absorb other's powers, which is nifty, and he can even do it without the negative side effects of Rogue (my favorite X-Man) or Mimic. During this episode Peter is having some visions/dreams. Sylar (the bad guy) is in one and then Peter has a vision that he is the one who explodes and he is looking very ill towards the end of the episode. My theory: Peter is having pre-cog dreams about Ted (the one with nuclear problem) much like he had about Nathan's. Also: perhaps he reabsorbed part of Sylar's power permenantly since he died next to Sylar and was reawakened by Claire when she came near with her healing power. This could also mean that Sylar is the one who explodes when he takes the nuclear power from Ted.

Eden: the theory is online is: did she or didn't she die? There is some theory that she killed Sylar as opposed to killing herself before Sylar could absorb her ability. (personally I think she killed herself)

Claire: the Haitian speaks! Claire has been informed of her Father's role in her friend's and family's missing memories of her; the real question is whether she will run to 'her hero' Peter or stay with her family. My guess is on running to Peter, but will she be able to heal him as he did not seem to improve much when she was in the room with him earlier in the show.

Matt Parkman and Peter: Sweet! Interesting the way two people's minds might connect and the static that causes. I am waiting for Matt to discover Peter's power. Everybody is coming together! Peter just needs to find a way to block out others now.

I have to admit dissapointment in the new tagline. Save the Cheerleader. Save the World. was just so much more catchy than Are You On The List?. Please feel free to share your thoughts or mock me for my geeky ways.

I think it was pretty clear that Eden killed herself, mostly to prevent sylar from getting her power.

I'm not really sure why peter was so sick. Shouldn't claire's healing have completely healed him? Was he absorbing somone else's power? The Hatian? I hadn't thought of Sylar posibly absorbing the human torch guy's power.

The ending made me think that perhaps Nathan would grab Peter and fly him to a tall height sacrificing himself and his brother so that the city doesn't explode.

What did you think of hiro possibly fighting a dinosuar? There was a nice little Ray Bradbury reference in that scene that was fun.

All in all, I enjoy heroes. It has it's moments. But it also has a definite feeling of "trying to hard." Like Claire has to have her body mangled accidentally in every episode? I like it, but I like Lost better.

Oh, and Niki irritates me as well. Check out my superpower, multiple personalities! ALl she needs is OCD man and manic depressive girl for a nice little cadre of mental disorder superhero fighting force!

I read the online comic and Eden is dead.

The reason I thought Sylar might absorb power and blow up instead of Ted is because of Peter's dreams. Peter dreamed about Sylar earlier in the episode, and there is also no sign of Ted being near him. I think proximaty limits Peter's powers for now and familiarity. The other two he dreamed about: Nathan (brother, who flys) and Simone's father (who he took care of for at least several months before he died the morning of the dream) were both located in the same town (albeit NYC) and both were well known to Peter. Since he died next to Sylar, it could have caused a similar bond between himself and Sylar.

I won't go into Lost here, I do agree that they have a better writing team, but I think they are losing their audience by not answering enough questions. (Sure we are going to tell you that the 'monster' on the island is black smoke, but we aren't going to explain that black smoke for the next three season - haha!).

The fact that Nathan is coming up to Peter and flying him up speaks to the fact that Peter is the one exploding, since I think Nathan wouldn't feel that obligation towards anybody else. (He just has to save the world from his brother apparently).

Hiro and a dino, awesome. It was a great show but the last two eps were decidedly Hiro lacking.

i was chatting about the mystery debate with gonzo. Personally, I think that episodes 2-6 of season three have been generally under par (though there have been bright spots). I actually like the extension/convolution of mysteries (would the show be interesting if all the mysteries were answered and they were just hanging out on the island waiting to be rescued? hardly!), but they need to keep the stories interesting and the stakes real.

One article I read was from a columnist that said the writers should give lost a finite timeline. Such as, "the show is going to end in two years, period." This would give the fans a set timeline so they'd know that everything was going to be resolved in a finite time period, but the writers would still have plenty of freedom to provide good stories. Many series have suffered when the network tried to extend them beyond their natural dramatic arc (*cough* sopranos *cough*), and I'd rather Lost not suffer the same fate.

And my personal opinion is that Lost has long since been lost to that exact fate. I couldn't care now if I tried.

But I definetly agree on the two year arch, that would be the best way to run these shows. And that seems to be the main failing, they drag them out too long and try to milk the ratings too much.

well, like I said, I'm a big fan, mostly because complex, intellectually stimulating mysteries are in short supply in media these days and that's the only kind of art I really enjoy. Still, I recognize the fact that the show is growing somewhat top-heavy and I would heartily prefer a set timeline to a shark jump. I still think you should try season 2. I promise, there's some good stuff!
