Now, I'm pretty politically moderate, and I regularly pay my taxes. However, I can't resist taking a pot shot at the Democrats right now, because I didn't realize the reason they don't mind having their taxes raised is because they never bothered to pay them in the first place.
Either that, or they just aren't smart enough to know that they should pay them if they would like to be appointed to positions in the future. You'd think they'd have wrapped up their hanging tax issues when it looked like Obama was going to win the Presidency so they could be considered for an appointment.
Seriously, Dashle pulls out, Nancy Keillifer pulls out, and Timothy Geithner was held up (and seriously, confiming a TREASURY Secretary who didn't pay taxes - a shame!). You can, of course, check out all of these issues here, sadly only two of the thirteen were Bush's (read Republican) nominees.
I found it rather humorous in all.

Penalties are like 30% of the taxes and interest compounded over the period that they are late. OWCH! So these RICH peoples get off really easily when BEING considered to these position and then they get a DEAL ...
Must be nice! NOT FOR us who have to pay and usually do pay ON TIME... But we're the chumps - don't cha think?
Well, this democrat doesn't want to argue with you (or remind you of the republicans who had the same issue during the last two terms). ;-) But, speaking as a DC lawyer and as someone who has a nanny and does pay taxes for her salary, I can state with confidence that most (more than 50%) "rich" people I know do pay taxes because they are scared that something like what happened to those idiots is going to happen to them -- and they can afford the taxes. More, many more, "poor" people (way less than 50%) don't pay the taxes because they can't afford them, their nanny's aren't legal and they figure they aren't going to get caught because nobody will be looking at them. This is actually a pretty common topic of conversation among parents in DC, probably because of where we are located. :) Gotta love DC! :)
