Voting In Midterms

That's right, after years of nagging from my mom, I am officially registered in the proper county. And yesterday I performed my civic duty and filled out my absentee ballot... then I dropped it off at the little drop off stand in our Fred Meyer parking lot. I feel like a contributing member of society!

Now one of our Props was a Road and Transit (Prop 1) and it was hilarious. It was put together by a board (of some kind), I am not sure what party most of the participants were a part of, but eventually one of the main contributors came out against the plan. He stated it wasn't a good option and that, combined with a price tag of 17-18 billion, was enough to cause public opinion to shift widely. The hilarious thing is the advertising campaign of the camp that wanted you to vote for it. It was:

"We have to do something"

Right.... I am going spend 18 billion dollars because it's something. I may spend 15 bucks on a coat if I need one immediately, but I am not going to spend 18 billion on 'something' because we don't have another immediate option. Are you literally telling me that the politicians in my state can't come up with another plan? I could probably come up with a better plan alone and blindfolded - and if it wasn't better it would at least be cheaper.

What was the silliest campaign in your area?

Well I'm in your area - kindof and the silliest campaign was the one you just mentioned - I'm so glad that not ONE spending bill passed!!! Go conservatives.
When the buerucrats (can't spell that word) get involved it gets ugly. Also you know who is in control of the legislature and governor's mansion - but I won't mention what party they are with. The spending has gone up exponentially in this state since the shift in power - but hey that's what you get.

I did like the ads for the Sorienno or whatever her name was running for the Seattle School board - we're not so stupid that you have to talk about yourself in the 3rd person so that you can mention your name 15 times in a 30 second commercial. I think she lost...
Fire them all! :) Just my little rant - feel free to delete this 10.
Oh and I'm glad my NAGGING helped you out! ;) haha!

I didn't get to vote in a school levy this year, but I did vote for school board!

In Stillwater their main school funding levy won, but they're second one (for something else) did not. So 14 hours after the polls closed they held a press conference at the Capitol here demanding the legislature and Governor do something to get schools more money.

Well... we keep trying to become a state... No luck so far.

But then we'd have to make room on the flag for another star Jess! I don't think our country can handle a problem like that. Why aren't we letting Puerto Rice and Virgin Islands in as states again?

We had a school prop that also failed, it would have only required a simple majority to pass school levies instead of a 60% vote.

oh and Mom - I was VERY dissapointed that drunk driving DA got re-elected, especially after she started attacking her opponants supporters. I can only imagine why King County re-elected her... esp since she's Republican.

Ya - I don't know about that drunk driving d.a. - you never know. It's unfortunate that the Rep. party didn't pull that person??? But I didn't follow it at all. Wasn't there a counselwoman who was voted in too that had a DUI - obviously it doesn't have the same 'black eye' effect that it used to.

Hey - what about the striking down of the Ref. 747 - b4 we got here 2001, but it's supposed to limit property tax increases to 1% a year - sounds good to me - well 5 justices on the State Supreme Ct. just overturned the will of the people. You know that this 747 passed in ALL the counties of the State. Amazing that 5 people on a court can do that!! Write your governor (she ain't my gov - but I wrote her) and your legislators. :( The State capital phone system was locked up during the afternoon cause of this.
God bless and I'm done ranting.
