Getting Carded

It is one thing to get carded for things you aren't supposed to be able to buy until after you are 21, but it's another to get carded for things you aren't supposed to do until you are 18...

Let me expound: When I was 17 I was out with my good friend Jessica and we decided to get our ears pierced - I believe it was her first piercing. Because we were 17 we couldn't go to Claire's or someplace reputable, instead we went to a hole in the wall in a dingy San Jose mall. It only cost me $2 to get my ears pierced, and those piercings gave me nothing but problems. Eventually they closed, I had repierced them on my own twice. However, since I haven't worn earrings in years they had closed beyond my own ability to repierce.

Therefore, the other day I decided I wanted to have a second hole again, especially since my third hole hasn't closed. So I went to Claire's and got it pierced - and got carded. Now I am not sure if they carded me because they have to write down the license number, or if they really thought I was under 18. I am not sure which I would prefer, I get rather annoyed with the constant asking of my age, or the 'did you just graduate from college?'. I don't think I look that young, compared with myself at 18 or 20 or 22... and people then used to think that I was older, but now they think I am still 22 or 24... I am almost 28 people!!

And Happy Birthday Roland!

Hey - piece of trivia - you posted this exactly when your bro was born - 1:52 p.m. you and he were such wonderful children waiting till the afternoon to be born. it's not Alaska time - but who cares.

I think people thot you were older cause you were tall for your age. I mean you had two short friends - sorry Jessica & Mara - but it's true - isn't it? Maybe I'm wrong ...
I guess I wasn't paying much attention to the 2nd hole thing and I didn't know you had a 3rd. I guess that's a pox upon me ... but it didn't kill you - maybe it's in the wrong place? So was it difficult to get the 2nd hole repunched? Was there scar tissue in there? :)
I've been mowing and now I have to go out and do the dog's section of the back yard.
I feel your pain about people not knowing your age. it took your uncle till about 35 till people knew he was 18. :) It's a good thing casue then when you're 40 you'll look 30 unless you have a really rough life. Look at your g'ma - she's 82 and hardly anyone can TELL!! Love, M

I went to a movie this summer with a certain friend who is in his low 30s. I was ahead in line, and got my ticket stub back and was through. Then he looks up at my friend and says "Oh, I'm gonna need to see ID for you guys." He has a bit of a rep for getting groups carded at restaurants when the waiter/waitress sees him at the table, but that was the first time for a 17+ reason. We got a good laugh out of that one. Of course he still has students ask him which room he lives in every year when he's out fixing stuff in the dorms too.

yeah, it is nice to get carded, which i prolly will for at least a few more years. there are other folks out there who have the unfortunate experience of having gray hair at a young age. that must suck. really, it must. :o)

I remember that piercing! Oh gosh, my stomach turns thinking about it. Was it really $2?? I only have one hole now because my other have always given me trouble. Teach me to try and put holes in my body....

I think you will still be carded when you are 40 and it will just be annoying. :)

And I wasn't THAT short. (not as short as Mara anyway).

Yah - Jessica - I was TRYING to remember - and I know that Mara was short!!! :)

remember T - your G'ma & G'pa were carded at 35 and they lived HARD lives - they were in the Mecca Bar at the time on 2nd Ave. Fbks.

:)

Jess - I remember writing something about you being short, but now I can't find it in the article - which is good because I meant to take it out. Jess is not that short, she's probably 5'6" or so. Poor Mara is the short one, shorter than even Bran, I believe we used to tease her about only being an inch and a half away from being legally a 'little person'

Ah, being carded when I am 40, one can only dream. Maybe I'll be called 'Mrs' and 'Ma'am' then - I'm still waiting for that day. I only get it every once in a while. Maybe I'll just start yelling 'respect my authori-tay!'... will that make me younger or older?

oh and Jess, you upgraded your piercing - I think you might've even splurged a whole 5 bucks for gold earrings!

I almost never get carded when I'm with Ben. I tease him that it's because he's an old man with gray in his beard.

My favorite was the time someone carded us both. Usually, they just card me and not him. I laughed at him.

haha! Lo that used to happen to Scott too, he has grey in his hair and he would get carded whenever we went places - it's slowed down more now that we are married. maybe it's the wedding ring?
