Using Algebra In Real Life

Now that I am working in the Human Resources department working on payroll (and ensuring everybody gets paid) I use algebra. It took me a while to remember some of the equations, but I believe I have mastered it - or at least what I have to master for the position. Didn't think I'd ever say it, but math can be fun!

My weekend consisted of doing yard work, trimming the holly bush, a couple a little bushes (don't know what they are) and a large 'devil bush' that has successfully taken over about a 10 foot area. My mom managed to cut back a bunch of it, and this weekend I managed to trim a bit more. I also managed to cut the electric cord with my hedge trimmer, which didn't shock me, but since I cut it clean through I am going to have to buy another one. Shhh, don't tell Scott, I don't want to catch too much grief for it.

All of us went and got pumpkins to carve for Halloween. I'll try and make this year better than last year's cat. Any ideas?

Don't keep secrets from your hubby - what you do is walk up to him when he's not looking with the two ends - one in each hand and say - "Dear - could you put this back together for me - I seem to have pruned it!" and then smile sweetly. He should be able to splice it - if not - then just throw it away. :)
I'm amazed that you didn't get shocked! Thank you God! :)

Carve something from the word -like Psalm 23 or that short one - what is that - 150 or 149 or something like that. :) Of course I'm kidding!
Love, Mom

Check out the latest Sunset Magazine - October - it has pumpkins with leaves carved out - looks really COOL! :)

You didn't get shocked because newer tools have insulated cases. It is actually a fairly common occurrence with electric hedge trimmers.

I did tell my husband - he looked like he was in a bad mood that day, but he was just concentrating (plus he was mowing the lawn). I am actually not replacing the cord because we don't need another one.

Jeff - so did this protect me when holding onto the severed end that was still plugged in?

The cord insulation protected you then. You would've had to poke your finger at the end of the cord and touch either the hot and neutral or hot and ground at the same time. Even then though it wouldn't have been bad since the current would only be traveling through the tip of one finger. Try taking apart an outlet while it's still live and touch one finger to neutral and one finger from your other hand on the hot wire. Now that will tingle a little.

Jeff - DON'T TELL HER TO DO THAT!!! :)

I tried to put my spoon or fork into a socket just behind me as a child - boy that got a BIG reaction from all the adults - NO they said. ;)

She didn't tell you it was GREEN - no wonder she didn't see it. It's like green pruning clippers - I've LOST THEM!! ;)

I have a copy of that Sunset magazine -- I agree there are great ideas in there (my mom brought it out to me from CA so that I could get some pumpkin carning ideas...)! I love the pumpkins that aren't cut all the way through so you get that nice back lit look. Very fancy. :)
