De-mossing The Lawn

That pretty much sums up my day, and suprisingly de-mossing turned out to be pretty fun. The step-kids came out and helped us (granted they earned $8 and $6 in allowance, but that's pretty cheap labor), and we had a fun time though it was rather back breaking labor. It involved hoe-ing up the backlawn and laying down some grass seeds and watering. I am hoping that I can get the outside of the house looking pretty nice this summer. Of course I am always one for wanting to garden and never doing it - I am sure Bran fondly remembers the garden we planted in MN...

I also posted up on craigslist to see if some people would be interested in joining our online book club. We only have about 5 members who have been regular contributors and I'd like more variety of opinions (we have a total of 17 members, but continuing education has co-opted at least two of them). The times we argue about books are very fun and people I'm not friends with have a bigger variety of opinions anyway. We will see who we get to respond, but (as always) if any readers of this blog want to join just let me know.

Have a tremendous week!

Hey Tenley,
I spent the weekend with some extra energy I received from the dr. on Friday. :)

So I cut the lawn on Saturday and weeded around the mugo pines and tall furry trees on Sunday and believe me that took most of Sunday afternoon. They look really nice without any weeds around them. :) I should send you a photo cause in a week they'll look pretty sad again. I took a weed whipper to take the grass down around them too. I put compost around each bush and they look really nice. On Saturday I finally fertilized most of the garden - the rhodys and the roses and the bushes. So all I have to do is the top level of the garden. I need to water too.

I wish those little kids would've come over here to help out - but I wouldn't pay them that much - just some chips or cookies.

WELL TALK TO YOU LATER AND HAVE A GOOD NITE,
LOVE,
MOM

Ok why didn't they both earn the same amount of allowance. The first nice weekend here that I was off I spend it tearing well what turned out to be everything out of the very over grown gardens at Jon's house. It was a good deal of fun. Well at least it started out that way. I finished if off later in the week. some of it was a super huge pain in the ass that since no one had tended to the garden in lots of years.
Then these stupid flower things which I dug up everywhere grew back like two weeks later. Turns out they are ditch lilies, and they are nearly imposible to get rid of. Damn waste of time.

One child is older than the other and you always pay that way - esp. if one does more work than the other. Or the other way around. :)

Try round up on those lily's ;)

actually we paid them 10 cents for every weed they pulled on top of the $5.00 flat fee. And Ryan, being very intrepid, pulled 36 weeds, while Autumn only pulled 12. Plus Ryan helped for like an hour longer, so it worked out to be fair.

everything at our house is overgrown, I am not even sure where to start!

ohmygosh, i'm so much more content to let betsy paw around in the small box of sprouts we have on our porch. i never got paid for yard work when i was a kid, and therefore, seem to have retained zero knowledge of the "green thumbed". gardening is good for the soul, but fresh veggies are admired by all. :o)

speaking of the rate of pay for pulling dandylions - in Fbks - I think I got paid I thot 25 cents each - (no flat fee) but I wonder if there is a problem with that memory - maybe it was only a nickel. :) It was our neighbors the Fosters who paid me and their children to pull them. Not many people had chemicals to spray on their lawns in those days.
